Canada’s Cineplex to Open Remainder of Locations Tomorrow, August 21

Cineplex, Canada’s leading cinema chain, has announced that all of its locations will be open as of tomorrow, Friday August 21.

Cineplex operates 1,687 screens across 164 theaters in Canada, along with ten entertainment centers spread across the Rec Room, Playdium, and Junxion brands. As of Cineplex’s Q2 earnings call, held earlier this month, 80 percent of their cinema locations were already open. Last weekend, Cineplex began screening new major releases: Paramount’s SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run, Solstice Studios’ Unhinged, and local title Mon cirque à moi. Tenet opens in Canada on August 27, by which times all Cineplex locations, including their 22 VIP Cinemas locations, will be open. The chain is hosting advance screenings the night before, and tickets are currently on sale on Cineplex’s website or their app.

Theater chain Kinepolis has opened its new Centrum Schalkwijk location in Haarlem, Netherlands today, October 8—though its inauguration has been postponed to a later date due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, the chain’s 10 MJR Digital Cinemas locations— acquired by Kinepolis in October 2019 , marking the chain’s first foray into the American market—will reopen this weekend. NATO Releases CinemaSafe ‘Welcome Back to the Movies’ Video

PRESS RELEASE As movie theaters continue to re-open in the United States, the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) today released a CinemaSafe “Welcome Back to the Movies” video. The 60-second animated video–which will soon be available onscreen at movie theaters—demonstrates the CinemaSafe health and safety protocols moviegoers will see when they return to the movies at participating CinemaSafe movie theaters. Comscore Inks Preferred Agreement with Marcus Theatres for Next Generation Theater Management

PRESS RELEASE Comscore has announced a multi-year agreement to provide Marcus Theatres, a division of The Marcus Corporation and the fourth largest theatre circuit in the United States, with Comscore’s next generation theater and circuit management solutions.
