Studio Movie Grill Opens Chisholm Trail Location in Fort Worth, Texas

Studio Movie Grill (SMG) is opening its first Fort Worth location on August 28, a week ahead of the Warner Bros. release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. The new site will be the circuit’s 14th location in its home state of Texas, adding an additional 12 screens to its existing 353 screens across 10 states in the U.S.

 “With the opening of SMG Chisholm Trail, we are excited to open our doors for the first time in Fort Worth and become the anchor for this exciting new development and serve the surrounding area,” said Studio Movie Grill Founder/CEO, Brian Schultz. “We are continually innovating our concept and pride ourselves on offering much more than just the best in movies and full-service in-theater dining; our mission is to open hearts and minds one story at a time and to serve and support our local communities.”   

SMG will be the anchor tenant of  The Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, a new shopping mall in Fort Worth.  The 40,000-square foot theater features 1,200 luxury recliners in 12 auditoriums, outfitted with the NEC laser projectors, and  QSC’s Q-SYS custom sound systems.

“On behalf of the City, I’d like to congratulate Studio Movie Grill on opening its first location in Fort Worth,” said Jungus Jordan, Mayor Pro Tem and Fort Worth City Councilman. Further touting, The Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch’s anchor tenant is a great addition to our great city!  Not only is it a wonderful entertainment venue but it will also aid in driving traffic to the shopping center. As a luxury movie theatre, Studio Movie Grill should quickly help to invigorate the area, by increasing amenities and offering guests safe, full-service dining options.”

The new location will open at 50 percent capacity due to Covid-19 measures in place across the circuit. A full list of SMG’s Covid-19 guidelines and policies can be found on the circuit’s website.

Showcase Cinemas Brings Early Christmas Magic to the U.K.

Showcase Cinemas kicked off the Christmas season early, Home Alone -style—bringing the Christmas classic to their locations for a special event on Sunday, October 25.  Visitors to the 18 Showcase U.K. locations where Home Alone was screening—the only Showcase location to miss out was their Cardiff theater, as cinemas in Wales were closed—got a free gift of chocolate along with their screening. Attendees at Showcase’s Bluewater location, the chain’s highest-attended in the U.K., got a more interactive ‘Snowcase’ experience, complete with snow machines, Santa’s sleigh, and other Christmas-themed decorations. (Absent were Kevin McCallister-inspired booby traps; probably for the best.) Billed as the U.K.’s first Christmas screening of 2020, the Home Alone event was designed to inject a bit of joy into the lives of patrons in a time when every little bit is much needed. This Week on the Boxoffice Podcast: UNIC’s Laura Houlgatte-Abbott on the Second Wave of Cinema Closures in Europe

Cinemark Q3 Earnings Reports: CEO Mark Zoradi Speaks on “Dynamic Theatrical Windows,” the Success of Private Rentals

Many of the questions asked of Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi during this morning’s quarterly earnings call were about streaming and theatrical exclusivity—leading the CEO to offer some updates on their evolving windows policy as well as clarify other points about the chain’s status moving into the fourth quarter of 2020. At AMC’s Q3 earnings call, held earlier this week, CEO Adam Aron touted the chain’s deal with Universal, which can see the theatrical exclusivity window for that studio’s titles shrink from the traditional 72 days to as little as 17 at AMC theaters. Cinemark, Zoradi announced, will join AMC in playing upcoming Universal and Focus releases The Croods: A New Age , Freaky , and Let Him Go when they open in theaters this month. Cineworld, owner of Regal, the country’s second largest chain, has made no announcements about reopening the bulk of their theaters in the coming weeks, though none of the handful of Regal theaters open in NY and CA list showtimes for Focus Features’ ...
